2016 Peter M. Walsh Award Recipient

2016 Conference – Peter Walsh Award Winner

In keeping with tradition, the annual Conference and Equipment Show culminates with the naming of the Peter Walsh Award winner at the gala dinner/dance on Thursday night. This year and every year since 1978, the list of nominee’s is a who’s-who of the MSA.  The recipient of the Peter Walsh award for 2016 is Tsutomu Imamura, from the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter.

Tsutomu has been an MSA member since 1991 and is retired from San Mateo County Public Works Department, where he served for 27 years. He has been an EBoard delegate since 2008 and most recently was the 2016 Conference Chairman for Registration. Despite his retirement, he diligently works for his Chapter, along with the entire organization.

Selecting the winner of the organizations highest honor is the responsibility of the Executive Board. Each May the board meets to evaluate and rate each nominee. The results of the voting are a tightly kept secret, thus creating quite a bit of drama before the envelope is opened on the last evening of the conference. The 2015 winner, Lyle Waite spoke about each nominee, highlighting the virtues that made them each worthy of being nominated. Following their introductions, Lyle opened the envelope and announced Tsutomu’s name, much to the delight of the entire gathering.

Tsutomu took the microphone and graciously thanked all those people who had supported him through the years. He spoke of his affection of his Chapter and the entire MSA. “I was nervous when Lyle started opening the envelope. When he announced my name, I was surprised!” Tsutomu took a few minutes to speak about the caliber of all the nominees and how thankful he was to recognized by the organization. In closing he thanked longtime significant other Brenda, for all her love and support for all that he does.

Congratulations to our honorees and also to each of those who were nominated. Every one of you are deserving of being recognized for your dedication and service.
