DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to perform highly technical work in the installation, operation and maintenance of electrical, electronic and digital controlled traffic signal control devices and lighting systems.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
· Troubleshoot, repair and maintain traffic signal control devices, ITS/Communication systems and auxiliary equipment including analog, digital, wireless, electronic, and microprocessors.
· Repair or replace damaged signal equipment such as signal poles, signal and pedestrian heads, and push buttons.
· Perform a variety of preventive maintenance duties including changing signal bulbs, cleaning reflectors and refractors, painting poles, and cleaning signal control cabinets.
· Install, maintain and repair pre-timed, semi-automatic, fully automatic, electro-mechanical, electronic and digital controllers, auxiliary equipment, and similar devices.
· Assist in wiring new intersections according to wiring specifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
Level I: Requires two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic control devices, preferably including traffic signal systems.
Level II: Requires two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic control devices preferably including traffic signal systems and two (2) years of experience as an ITS Signal Technician Level I+ or equivalent.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Both Levels:
Requires a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency supplemented by specialized training in electronics or degree related to the core functions of this position. An associate degree is preferred.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Both Levels:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Level I:
- Possession of, or required to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire, a Work Zone Safety Certificate, Electronic or Electrical Technician Certificate and a Level I International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification.
Level II:
- Possession of, a Work Zone Safety Certificate, Electronic or Electrical Technician Certificate
- Possession of a Level II International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certification.
