POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for an experienced and knowledgeable professional to fill a position as Landscape Maintenance Superintendent. This is the highest supervisory class in the Parks Supervisor series and is responsible for directing field activities, contract administration, and safety programs of the Landscape Maintenance Division. The Landscape Maintenance Superintendent assigns, supervises, monitors, inspects and evaluates the work of employees in the maintenance of special district landscapes, parks, median islands, irrigation, chemical application and urban forestry. Some of these essential duties include plan, develop and execute on-going maintenance and projects to improve and beautify City maintained landscapes; assist in the development and implementation of the division’s safety and training programs; receive, investigate and process complaints from the public; prepare and administer program budgets and contracts; and direct the division in the absence of the Public Works Manager. The work environment is a professional setting as well as in the field. The incumbent will interact with other professionals, citizens and elected officials. This position is ideal for someone with high initiative and sound judgment in a variety of complex situations. An ideal candidate will be able to focus on training, developing and providing clear instruction in operational methods while overseeing staff as well as an ability to communicate well orally and in preparing clear, concise reports, records and correspondence.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
As required by Emergency Order 2021-02, section 7.8, newly hired City employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. PAY, BENEFITS, & WORK SCHEDULE
UNIT 13 Classification: City of Fresno Professional Employees Association (CFPEA)
3% salary increase, effective June 20, 2022
3% salary increase, effective June 19, 2023
RETIREMENT: Fresno City Retirement System, one of the best funded public systems in the state. Reciprocity with other public California systems. The city does not participate in Social Security. Vested in Retirement benefits after 5 years of service.

ANNUAL LEAVE: 15.5 hours per month
SUPPLEMENTAL SICK LEAVE: 80 hours
MANAGEMENT LEAVE: 60 hours per fiscal year
HOLIDAYS: Ten (10) City-observed annual holidays plus birthday and two (2) personal days.
LIFE INSURANCE: Benefit equal to annual salary; premium paid by The City of Fresno.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY: Benefit equal to 66.66% of monthly salary up to $7,500 per month after 30 days of disability; premium paid by The City.
HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ARRANGEMENT: Upon retirement
Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP)
DROP is an optional, voluntary program that allows you to have your retirement benefits deposited in a special savings account within your Retirement System all while you continue to work for the City of Fresno. To participate you must be at least age 50 with 5 years of service. Benefits include Ownership of DROP account monies, compound interest earnings, and alternative distribution options.

THE REQUIREMENTS
These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify. TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have: -Two years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in the landscape maintenance operations or field construction operations; AND -15 units of accredited college or university coursework in plant science, horticulture, business administration, public administration or closely related field. An additional six months of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License at time of appointment and maintain the license for the entire term of employment in this class.
Possession of a Qualified Applicator License within nine (9) months of appointment and maintain the license for the entire term of employment in this class. Failure to obtain the Qualified Applicator License within nine (9) months of appointment and maintain for the entire term of employment in this class will be cause for termination.
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

Oral Examination - 100%: A panel of subject matter experts will conduct job-related interviews to evaluate a candidate's training, experience and personal traits for the position. Candidates must achieve a passing score in order to qualify for the eligible list.
